For those that aren’t into sports (like us), Superbowl parties are for the half time show and the special television ads. Our friend and renowned designer, Marc Atlan invited us over to his home for a Superbowl Kickoff party. Marc has been awarded numerous international design accolades and has worked with powerhouse fashion and luxury brands like James Perse, Comme Des Garcons, Helmut Lang, Prada, and Tom Ford to name a few. You might even remember some of the designs he did for Poketo? What an honor that was.

We didn’t go for the game, but, rather to celebrate Marc Atlan’s most recent project… the branding for the David Beckham x H&M collaboration. Marc’s design firm did everything from television to packaging, all the way down to the fine details of the product. Whether or not you’re a David Bechkam fan, it was awesome to see our friend on the global stage and continue to be the design star he is.

Hanging out in Venice on a Sunday not bad either.

Bravo, the network that brought us shows like Top Chef and Project Runway, is debuting a new competition-based reality series tonight called “Work of Art” to find America’s next great artist.

The fourteen contestants are young and photogenic. They have diverse backgrounds in sculpture, installation, video art, photography, performance art, and painting, among others. Some of them are struggling artists, and others have already been in prominent shows or have gotten prestigious grants. Like other competition shows, someone gets booted at the end of each episode. The “winner” of the show receives a $100,000 cash prize and a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Check out this preview:

<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /

It feels uncertain whether something as subjective as art can viably put into a competitive context, or whether a panel judges, however well-informed, can assess such a broad range of art. It could be entertaining, though, and the premise is provocative enough to compel us to watch the first episode. It debuts tonight, June 9th at 11pm on Bravo. So, readers, will you be watching?

For those of you without TV’s, Mad Men is an award-winning drama set in the 1960′s about an advertising agency on Madison Avenue, and the slick, stylish, delectably lecherous men and women who work there. The attention to detail to the fashion, props, and sets in this show is truly remarkable, and now Mattel has made equally detailed, Barbified versions of Don Draper, Roger Sterling, Joan Holloway, and Betty Draper. They are available for a mere $75 at BarbieCollector.com, amctv.com and other retailers in July.

The dolls bear little resemblance to the characters (where did Joan’s curves go?), but in the retro spirit of Mad Men, it looks like the mold of the dolls closely resemble the original 60′s Barbie.

Notably absent from the dolls’ accompanying accessories are the smokes and booze. Mattel markets primarily to kids, after all.

HBO doesn’t only excel in its programming from comedies, dramas, to documentaries, but its way of presenting the programs in this spectacular and interesting fashion deserves recognition. I don’t mind paying the premium for this. Network TV which is already struggling should take note, which I’m sure they’re painfully doing already…

We don’t want to ruin the conclusion for those of you who haven’t checked your Tivo yet, so instead of recapping the finale, here’s a fun look into the most famous sibling rivalries of all!

Last month, when we were traveling in Asia, we suddenly found ourselves with no cash. After a bit of panic, we called American Express who provided the best service you would imagine possible. We felt like we were in an American Express commercial. I promise, I’m not getting paid by Amex to say this. I just find that excellent customer service is hard to come by nowadays.

Apart from the service, what I really appreciate about Amex is their marketing campaigns. I actually make a point of watching their commercials because they are… just really well done, almost artful, entertaining and moving even.

I just watched a new one that I wanted to share. What look like frowns on inanimate objects turn to smiles. The beauty is found in the simplicity.

This one with Diane Von Furstenberg is one of my favorite commercials of all time. The music and cinematography is wonderful. Directed by Bennett Miller, director of Capote.

And of course, featuring Rober Di Niro, directed by Martin Scorsese.

And this hilarious one with Tina Fey and Martin Scorsese.
