To Big Sur With Love
Went up for my brother’s wedding over the long weekend. Amazing to be out in the stars and trees with old and new friends. It’s times like these I wish could last forever.

Weekend is time for a trip to your local market. I missed the Portland market, but, was able to catch the Eugene Farmers Market last weekend. The best I have ever been to…. super fresh, organic produce and tasty hot meals too. Our local Hollywood and Silverlake farmers market are good, but, ain’t got nothing on this. Take me back! See you on the upside.
Heating up hot water for the coffee on these burners.

Brick oven pizzas! Crazy, I didn’t know they made huge portable ovens like this.

Angie and artist Charlene Liu.
When I travel, I carry about 5 different analog and digital cameras with me. Each one produces a different look and feel and also makes me shoot in different styles too. Here are a bunch of spontaneous shots with my very small Harinezumi 2 digital video and still camera. I love the post processed look and the fact I can keep it in my pocket, it’s perfect that I can carry this along with my other larger Nikon DSLR. Before I start nerding out even more… enjoy.
There is no better way to get together and catch up with our artists and friends over some good food. From Portland to Eugene, we had the best time ever and lots of good eats. Thank to everyone that gave us their suggestions on our Facebook and Twitter, we hit most of them!
Broder Cafe with Kate Bingaman Burt…. an incredible Swedish breakfast joint.
Thai appetizer at Pok Pok with husband and wife duo, Aaron and Ayumi of APAK. I was a bit skeptical of this Thai joint at first… but, it was surprisingly authentic and delicious!
Portland had tons of little cluster food trucks. This in the Alberta Street area…. a wonderful little burger with JD Hooge and Betsy Walton.
This was probably the craziest of spreads on our trip. Thing you need to know about artists Charlene Liu and Isami Ching… they are foodies and amazing cooks. Don’t judge by the home made spread you see here… it’s an amalgamation of our leftovers from the weekend we spent with them. To break it down, we had smoked ribs, oysters, biscuits, and potato salad the morning before we left. Sounds like a funny mish mosh… and I admit, it is. But, it was so darn good and worked in a weird left overs kind of way.
Below are also a couple of pictures and video from where we originally got the oysters and the fine day at the beach we enjoyed them. We bought 48 oysters between us. Bring me back.
Good thing about being in Oregon… fireworks galore! It has been years since California outlawed fireworks. I remember the big tent fireworks stands like this one here where as a kid, I would always yearn for the mega pack-good to know they still exist. Today, I hand picked some old and new school goodies, I hope they are as good as when I was a kid. Happy Fourth of July!!
Whoa, day one was a whirlwind. Landed bright and early and we hit the ground running. Love getting out of LA for a bit and seeing new things. Places to go, so many people to see… this is just day one, four more to go!
As soon as we landed, hung out and got some sneak peeks of new collaborations with Betsy Walton.
Tim Biskup and Tigerlily show. So rad, a lot of great collaborative pieces with father and daughter.
Martin Ontiveros and Bwana Spoons of Grass Hut.
Met for the first time, Josh and Colby of Jolby & Friends, super rad folks.
Justin “Scrappers” Morrison, crazy as ever.
Super stoked to catch some Marco Zamora pieces at the Upper Playground opening, “Totally Spoked”. Marco, your pieces looked great!
With only a few hours sleep the night before, thank goodness for Stumptown Coffee keeping us awake!
Beautiful, beautiful… from desert to beach, the drive from Cabo San Lucas to Playa de Tecolote is amazing. You pass through a couple of historic towns, Todos Santos (known for its incredible surfing) and La Paz. This time of year, it’s hot hot hot. Last we were there around this time, it was well over 100 degrees of dry and oppressive heat. But, the drive is amazing–narrow roads, valleys of cactus, desert,–and when you finally reach the Sea of Cortez and the turquoise waters of Playa de Tecolote…. amazing. Travel=Inspiration.
