Since Poketo opened the doors to its brick-and-mortar retail store in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles eight months ago, we have embarked on a beautiful adventure of discovery and growth. We have made so many new friends along the way and connected with a talented group of artists, designers, creators and businesses in the community here. Our original vision for the store was to have it serve as a hub for the creative community by presenting art shows, workshops and unique public events. While we have organized multiple events and art shows here, we wanted to invest more time and planning to organize our series of workshops that will be one-of-a-kind, diverse, informative and fun.
We are excited to announce that we will now be offering workshops at the Poketo store, beginning Sunday April 14th! The first workshop will be the Tiny Bird Workshop with Cheryl Cambras, where you will learn how to make tiny crocheted birds in a three-hour session, and pick up the basics of amigurumi (the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed creatures). Cheryl is an LA-based textile designer and maker who is dedicated to the careful craft and expressive art of making textiles for multiple platforms. She develops lines of knitwear, accessories, home goods, toys, and sculptures that express her commitment to artisanal quality and formal exploration, and has taught multiple knitting and crochet workshops.
With the plethora of talented individuals in the city and region, we have got so many more exciting workshops in the pipeline, so keep your eyes peeled on this space as we roll them out over time. We will keep class sizes small so that you get an optimal hands-on experience and interaction time with the instructor.
And if there is a class you’d like to see offered, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section or at workshops@poketo.com!

Thank you to everyone who came out to Alley-Oop on Saturday night and making the show a success! We had a packed house, it was so much fun seeing all of you. It was equally amazing to witness the community come together to support two very talented artists, designers and friends, Eric Trine and Will Bryant. After previews of Eric and Will’s work on their Tumblr and Instagram, we were so excited to finally see it all together at Poketo… the whole collection was even more stunning in person. It was incredible to see their vision realized, and heartening to see everyone enjoy the show.
Keeping the crowd well-fed that evening were delicious bites from the hardworking crew at Heirloom LA. They served up tray after tray of mouthwatering appetizers – beet green ravioli, duck confit, cod, lettuce wraps – we couldn’t get enough! Special thanks also to Boxed Water and wine from our friend Melle Music for the refreshments.
For those of you who couldn’t make it down on Saturday, the exhibition will continue on unil March 18 at the Poketo store. Do drop by to check it out soon…this is one show you don’t want to miss out on!

The Alley-Oop design exhibition is just a few days away, and we’ve got a few more sneak peeks from the talented duo, designer Eric Trine and artist Will Bryant. Here’s a sample of some sculptural pieces you can expect to see on Saturday, alongside many other items like including home decor, furniture, graphic tee shirts, prints… tons of goodness. This is a collaboration between a designer/maker (Eric) and illustrator (Will), the first of it’s kind between these two amazing artists individually and as good friends collaborating and pushing each other individual aesthetic. Everything in the exhibition will be available for purchase, and most items are affordably priced under $200!
And if that isn’t enough, chefs Matt and Tara of Heirloom LA will be creating a delicious menu for the event. They’re known for their flavorful cuisine prepared using only local, farm-fresh ingredients, so it’s going to be quite a delicious spread!
