We love the Pastels! Not only because the lovely and talented Poketo artist Annabel Wright (Aggi) plays in the band. But because they have made some seriously good music over the years. Here’s a beautiful video of “Vivid Youth,” a song from their latest collaboration with Tokyo-based band, Tenniscoats.
Fruit carvings are hardly anything new. People have been doing it for hundreds and hundreds of years. But when its done masterfully, the results can be pretty amazing. Master carver Takashi Itoh takes this traditional art to a new level creating pieces that are beautifully executed with utmost precision in design. His site archives past sculptures he did for various clients ranging from the usual fare of flowers all the way up to carvings of dancers, castles, and even Napoleon Bonaparte. Yes, Napoleon Bonaparte. I never realized that watermelons could be so much more than fruit.
I love this! The Inventables Concept Studio has developed the concept for this transparent toaster to ensure that you get your toast just the way you want it each time. We hope this concept pulls through! There are some eager breakfast eaters out there waiting. (via design-milk)
I apologize for those who feel they’ve been inundated with Mayer Hawthorne buzz over the last few months, or year rather. But he’s just so darn good!! I love this heart-shaped record he released with Stones Throw for his debut single, “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out.” I heard they made limited runs of this and sold out. But it seems that they’ve reissued them again. Good thing! Label head Peanut Butter Wolf says that Mayer Hawthorne was the only person he’s ever signed onto Stones Throw after hearing just two songs. That’s gotta be worth something. If you get a chance, pick up his full length album Strange Arrangement. The music, the production, everything is unreal. You’ll be confused thinking you’ve heard his songs before, but they’re totally current. Mayer Hawthorne’s music isn’t just a retro throw back to old motown/soul but it’s something new, something special.
