Indigo fun…
We got all blue over the weekend at For Your Art’s fabric dying workshop. Less an instructional workshop and more of a fun, experimental dying session with fabrics that we brought in. Blocking elements like rope, rocks, rubber bands, and wood were all available and the lead of the workshop, Kim Kelly, just had us dive in and create spontaneous patterns. By no means did we create anything sophisticated, but, it was too much fun and surprising what came of just using simple tools and folds in the fabric. The workshop was part of the Planter show, an exhibition of several LA artists working with ceramic and other media creating awesome vessels for plants.
I bought one of these pieces by Kelly Lamb.
And, one of these by Linda Hsiao.

Oh, how fun. I actually did that at the Santa Monica Museum of Art and learn how to do some interesting folding techniques to make different patterns with the dye. It smells kind of weird though.
