Rob Walker, “Significant Objects”
Rob Walker, the columnist for Consumed in the New York Times Magazine has recently started a project Significant Objects. He and author Joshua Glenn have rounded up some great writers to create short stories out of objects they’ve bought for a couple dollars at thrift stores. A twist is that the objects will be available for sale on ebay along with a copy of the object’s story. They’ve already published some stories on their site and will continue throughout July and beyond. Really cool stuff.

You might remember that Rob Walker profiled Poketo in NYT Magazine’s Consumed back in 2006. He also wrote a book last year titled, Buying In: The Secret Dialogue Between What We Buy and Who We Are. The book has been acclaimed as “one of the five best nonfiction books of 2008″ by Salon. A must read.
