“Love Action (I Believe in Love)” by the Human League because it is fun to sing, danceable for the crowd and even has a short rap section.
the top faves have to be:
“total eclipse of the heart” by bonnie tyler
“magic dance” david bowie (or anything david bowie really)
“wannabe” spice girls
“Come On Eileen” Dexy’s Midnight Runners
“Forever Young” Alphaville
the list could really go on and on.
Mine is “Irresistible” by Jessica Simpson. I have a terrible voice, but this one works for me. Cheesy, yes. Hot, yes. Gimme a shirt!
xo
“The Ace of Spades” by Motorhead!
It’s got to be ‘Lola’ by The Kinks, just so I can feel like I’m Zapp Brannigan from Futurama (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kElqjnp7A1s)
Or maybe Bruce Springsteen, ‘Born to Run’, because…well, it kicks ass. But yeah, I’ll go with Lola.
I hate to be obvious or unoriginal, but my #1 favorite karaoke song is “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”…. last seen on a cruise ship on the way to Belize… I just love the extended “Fire Awaaaayyyyy…..Hey Hey!” #2 is “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett… but I have also been known to join a friend on “Hello” by Lionel Richie as the literal lyric interpreter for the hard of hearing.
Total eclipse of the heart!
my faves are “punk rock girl” by the dead milkmen because everyone can yell along and anything blondie or heart because they are just all so much fun to sing!
1. One time I went to a karaoke bar and I brought glitter. I signed up to do “What a Feeling” by Irene Cara, also known as the theme from Flashdance. I wore gold pants and leg warmers. When they called my name I snuck a handful of the glitter up on stage and kept my fist closed until the music started. When the music started, I opened my hand and blew the glitter out. It landed on some drunk dudes and they were probably pretty bummed. But once I started singing, I think they couldn’t help but feel bad for me because no matter how hard I try, I sound terrible.
2. Another time, I signed up to do “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes because I do a pretty amazing impersonation of the singer’s voice, if I do say so myself. Some snatchleberry hound wearing a “Blossom” hat signed up to do the same song about 30 minutes later and looked at me all smug as she sang! I think she maybe she didn’t understand that my song was supposed to be funny, and she wanted to show me how it’s really done.
oh man, lita ford’s ‘kiss me deadly’. complete with innappropriate dance moves.
Even though I don’t do karaoke (I’m allergic), I suspect in another life I’d most likely be apt to croon “Ask” by The Smiths and the $5 Footlong Song from Subway.
Epic, Faith No More
OR
People = Shit, Slipknot
What is the criteria for a winning entry?
Julie, The criteria is basically the answers we like. Tell us why you would choose the songs.
Human League – Don’t You Want Me. Inner Circle – Girl I’m Gonna Make You Sweat
you can do a duet with human league and inner circle is just fun as hell
I don’t have a voice, so I rely on performance and getting the crowd into it. “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler, “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi, “New York, New York” Frank Sinatra, and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond are crowd pleasers.
All That She Wants by Ace of Bass. It’s a chick singing it, but she sings low enough and monotonous enough for me to sing along!
Like a Virgin by Madonna — it takes me back to being 12, when my parents would make me sing (and dance) at family parties.
Two weeks ago on a quiet Wednesday evening, I managed to do what I think was a totally awesome rendition of ‘Day-O’ by Harry Belafonte. It was incredible; everyone came up on stage and danced, no one really had to worry about being on key, you don’t really need to know the lyrics, and it’s slow enough that if you’ve just sung your heart out to Lauryn Hill’s version of ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, then you can fully catch your breath.
mack the knife, straighten up and fly right, beyond the sea…
yeah, there’s a theme here.
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston. I love this song because it’s fun to sing the lyrics, “I wanna feel the heat with somebody!!!”
The Whitney Houston medleys are awesome because they let you sing the best parts of all the hits.
Even if I don’t win this contest, I NEED the kitty singing kararoke!!! I sure hope you make this t-shirt available for purchase! I will be the first one to buy it!!! Sadly, I can’t make it to LA to bust out the jams, but hope someone will sing some Whitney for me!
Creep – Radiohead
We Belong – Pat Benatar
Something to talk about -Bonnie Raitt
Open Arms – Journey
random I guess, but they reflect my 80′s ish upbringing, and fit my vocal range!
All these comments with no mention of Don’t Stop Believin’? For shame.
Yeah, it’s cliché and a bit campy, but that’s part of the fun. Also part of the fun is the fact that the song spans a wide vocal range and everyone knows the lyrics. It’s one of the few songs that no one can really pull off, but people go for it anyway. Pretty epic at its best, and just plain fun during less-than-stellar performances.
Seriously, guys. I mean, there’s even a book on the history of karaoke that’s named after the song: http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Stop-Believin-Karaoke-Conquered/dp/0306815834.
That has to be worth something, right?
kiss by a rose by seal, duh!
this rainbow version of the Tshirt graphics is tripping me out
